Nigeria and Our Jaded Culture of Vanity!
We listen to ourselves cheer each other with accolades and recognitions for those who simply get to the top by luck, instead of the din of their hard work.
We convene in big halls to remind ourselves of long forgotten plans that were never implemented so that some of us can use their new found knowledge to show off their paper achievement, and we sit their clapping robotically, so that all others will watch who is the big honcho, who can leave the venue first.
Thereafter, we pretend awe at the dumb urchins who use force and intimidation to keep us in check, while they flaunt our common-wealth as their own.
We scurry to evey venue that a UN, or a WHO, or any similar international exploiter Org, known as NGOs, who come with hare-brained programs, that forces us to focus on silly issues, but never come with plans for industrialization.
They have loans for us to spend as they see fit, but they never bring loans to build villages, and roads, and nuclear power stations (ok Chinese are trying), because the loans are only large enough to pay for their logistics and a also pay a few of us who are willing to condemn our local systems, and our education, for theirs, which is alien and unfit for us
Those of us who should know better are usually quick to throw out the totality of our knowledge for their “Ghana must go bags” of Naira and a briefcase of dollars. We have no spine, never standing up for the right things that will benefit all Nigerians.
Our politics is so toxic that a man of faith and a believer in any religion becomes an enemy to the other Nigerian who believes a different faith. This is actually so ingrained in our psyche that any fool can open a religious shop and convince Nigerians that his prayer and closeness to God will make them successful, rich, powerful and the chosen people of god.
The rest of the WORLD is Busy working to achieve success. WE PRAY!
So!
The NNPC migrated into a private Corporation and the fuel debacle and price uncertainty has not abated. So I wait for the CBN to be absolutely forceful in implementing the New Naira notes in the pipeline, so that no Nigerian can stockpile Naira outside the bank.
I also remind the CBN to reassess how much cash is needed in Circulation. If 2 out 3 trillion was kept at home, CBN and the Mint should consider removing 2 trillion from circulation and print only 1 trillion in cash.
Nigeria must be great if our leaders are prepared to plan well and take drastic, sometimes painful, action!
We must begin the journey in earnest!!
