WHY THE BANKS FAILED…
### ‘Make quick and exploitative profits without requisite investment to sustain the business!’
Nigerian banks are busy focusing on marketing and deposits when they should have built up strong ICT departments that are second to none in Nigeria!!
ICT always requires investment that is designed to expect future needs, provide triple or more redundancy in power and storage, provide a disaster recovery plan to guard against any natural or man-made disasters, and build redundancies in communication networks that withstand unexpected failure, plus Tier-3 data centers that guarantees an uptime of 99.999% minimum!
How then can a bank like Zenith, and a few others experience a total system collapse, when they report ungodly profits annually; especially when their customers are charged for every service and every transaction imaginable!?
Our young graduates with requisite intelligence and knowledge are busy running abroad for work when the banks sit exposed to every small ICT challenge because they have refused to spend on investments that will support their business and make their customers happy??
Part of this problem stems from a weak regulatory environment, but most of it is the practice of putting men and women in charge of critical industries not based on merit, but on the whims of a few rich and a few powerful Nigerians.
Is there light at the end of the tunnel for Nigerians? No industry will adjust to the realities of the modern world so long as the users are rendered irrelevant in determining a consequence for failure!
Enough is enough!!
