THE PRESIDENT AND HIS HOLLOW SPEECH…!
THE PRESIDENT AND HIS HOLLOW SPEECH…!
The president’s recent address regrettably left several pivotal issues unaddressed.
Firstly, the exhortation for patience lacked a concrete timeline—what is the expected duration of this patience? There was an absence of explicit measures regarding the stabilization of pump prices. What can we foresee in the forthcoming months or by the subsequent year? Additionally, there was no discourse on strategic initiatives to enhance local refining capacities to mitigate pump prices. We require transparency on the projected pump prices.
The address was deficient in both immediate and long-term assurances. Merely imploring patience is inadequate. As constituents, we anticipate more robust plans and decisive actions from the leader of a nation as significant as Nigeria.
Despite the president’s enumeration of various initiatives, the substantive benefits of these efforts have not permeated to the citizenry. The allocation of funds to state governments appears ineffective, as demonstrated by Governor Sanwo-Olu’s ephemeral market initiative, which terminated after three weeks. Was this cessation due to a discontinuation of federal funding?
The numerous unresolved issues are disconcerting, leaving me disillusioned with the prevailing situation. It is alarming that the vigor of recent protests seems to be diminishing. Should this movement lose its impetus, there is a risk that the federal government may not undertake any substantive measures.
Moreover, there is a conspicuous lack of accountability for the disbursement of billions of naira. Despite substantial allocations, the tangible impact on the populace is negligible, and conditions continue to deteriorate.
In summation, I am profoundly dissatisfied with the president’s address and the overarching management of these critical issues.
The president notably failed to address the explicit demands of the protesters in his speech; it was replete with hollow promises that neither alleviate current hunger nor project future relief.
The address appeared to be an exercise in self-congratulation, boasting about the disbursement of billions to various entities. These billions remain unverified in terms of reaching their intended beneficiaries. The claim of providing loans to 600,000 nano businesses is particularly dubious—when did this occur?
The accountability for billions remains opaque.
Where is the demonstrable impact of the disbursed funds? Instead of improvement, conditions continue to deteriorate.
