ONANUGA; MEN OF YESTERDAY, BOYS OF TODAY
News Magazine was founded in February 1993 by BAYO ONANUGA, Babafemi Ojodu, Dapo Olorunyomi, Kunle Ajibade, Idowu Obasa, Sani Kabir, and Seye Kehinde.
They were all former staff of the Concord Newspapers who protested because the Publisher of Concord, the late Chief MKO Abiola asked them to apologise to then military President Ibrahim Babangida over a very critical article they published against IBB’s regime.
The News Magazine published by the Independent Communications Network Limited, was known for it’s Guerrilla journalism because of their bold reporting. A Magazine that stood firm in the fight then against the late General Sani Abacha. They were journalists respected then by Nigerians for their boldness in confronting dictatorship. They launched the @pmnewsnigeria in August 1994. Onanuga was the founding Editor-In-Chief of the Magazine.

“The CHAGOURY’S. HOW A FAMILY HIJACKED NIGERIA.”
With the happenings in Nigeria since May 29, 2023, one of the headlines of Bayo Onanuga’s ‘The News and PM news’ of the 90’s would have been like ‘TINUBU AND CHAGOURY’S; HOW TWO FAMILIES CAPTURED NIGERIA’. But that can’t be, because the story is different today, as that same Onanuga is President Tinubu’s spokesman. Onanuga would rather defend that same man he called corrupt, that HIJACKED NIGERIA in the 90’s. Today, Gilbert Chagoury is no longer corrupt. Today, Onanuga’s principal awards the biggest contracts in our history to that same Chagoury, and he is doing so in a very corrupt manner without transparency and violating all procurement processes.
Today, Onanuga’s principal can bestow on that same Chagoury the second highest honour in our land, and that same Onanuga will see it as WELL DESERVED, and it is his duty to defend it.
That is Bayo Onanuga’s definition of PATRIOTISM, and you are UNPATRIOTIC if you criticise President Tinubu because of Chagoury today.
