POTISKUM PARLIAMENT’S SECOND ANNIVERSARY – A MESSAGE TO OUR MEMBERS.

June 12, 2026

My dear brothers, sisters, friends, elders, leaders, and fellow members of the Potiskum Parliament,

As we approach June 13, 2026, we stand at an important moment in our collective journey. By the grace of Almighty Allah, the Potiskum Parliament will be two years old.

What began as an idea, a conversation, and a shared concern for the future of our community has grown into a respected platform for dialogue, advocacy, education, and community engagement. Today, we celebrate not merely the passage of time, but the power of a united people determined to contribute positively to the development of Potiskum, Zone B, and Yobe State.

Two years ago, we came together with a simple but noble mission: to create a space where citizens could discuss issues affecting our people, preserve our history and identity, encourage good governance, promote unity, and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of our society. We recognized that communities do not progress by chance. Progress comes when ordinary people decide to become active participants in shaping their destiny.

Over the past two years, our Parliament has become a voice for constructive engagement. We have discussed matters affecting our communities, defended our heritage when necessary, celebrated our achievements, mourned our losses together, and encouraged one another to rise above division and apathy.

More importantly, we have translated our discussions into action.

We have extended financial support to patients receiving treatment at the Specialist Hospital, Potiskum, on two separate occasions, providing assistance and comfort to members of our community during some of their most difficult moments. In doing so, we demonstrated that the Potiskum Parliament is not only a forum for ideas, but also a vehicle for compassion and service.

We have stood with our youth and our brightest minds by engaging the Yobe State Government on its commitment to honour first-class graduates of Yobe State University. We believe that excellence deserves recognition and that societies progress when merit, hard work, and achievement are celebrated and rewarded.

Beyond advocacy, members of the Potiskum Parliament have facilitated employment opportunities for qualified candidates within federal agencies, including a special mention of NAFDAC. Every young person assisted in securing meaningful employment represents a family strengthened, a future secured, and a contribution to the development of our wider community.

We have also devoted considerable attention to one of the most important concerns facing our people—electricity supply. Through extensive engagement and consultations, we examined the challenges confronting residents and businesses in Potiskum, consolidated community concerns, and conveyed those concerns directly to the management of the relevant electricity distribution authorities. In doing so, we ensured that the voices of our people were heard where decisions are made.

These achievements may not solve every challenge facing our community, but they reflect our commitment to practical engagement, responsible citizenship, and collective action. They demonstrate that when citizens unite around a common purpose, they can contribute meaningfully to improving the lives of others.

We have demonstrated that genuine love for Potiskum is not measured by words alone, but by a willingness to serve, to listen, to learn, and to work together despite our differences.

Our successes belong to every member.

They belong to those who have contributed their knowledge and experience.

They belong to those who have devoted their time to organizing activities and discussions.

They belong to those who have spoken courageously for truth and fairness.

They belong to those who have quietly supported our mission without seeking recognition.

Most importantly, they belong to the people of Potiskum and Zone B, whose hopes, aspirations, and welfare remain the reason for our existence.

Yet, while we celebrate, we must also reflect.

The challenges facing our communities remain significant. Our youth continue to seek opportunities. Our educational institutions require support. Economic hardship affects many families. Security challenges continue to test our resilience. Our communities need greater investment, stronger institutions, and more active civic participation.

These realities remind us that our work is far from done.

Therefore, this anniversary must not simply be a celebration of what we have achieved. It must also be a renewal of our commitment to do what remains to be done.

Let us rededicate ourselves to the ideals upon which the Potiskum Parliament was founded:

– Unity in diversity and Unity over division.

– Service over personal interest.

– Dialogue over conflict.

– Knowledge over ignorance.

– Community advancement over individual gain.

So, Let us continue to build bridges among our people, regardless of age, profession, political affiliation, or social status. Let us inspire our younger generation to believe in the future of Potiskum and to prepare themselves to become the leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, and public servants of tomorrow.

Let us remain steadfast in protecting the dignity, history, and identity of our people while embracing cooperation and friendship with all our neighbours.

Above all, let us never lose sight of the fact that every great community is built by *citizens who choose responsibility over indifference*.

As we mark this second anniversary, I call upon every member to celebrate our journey, take pride in our accomplishments, and recommit to the noble mission that brought us together.

The Parliament is not merely a group.

– It is the voices of concerned citizens.

– It is a platform for ideas.

– It is a repository of our collective memory.

– It is a symbol of our determination to leave Potiskum and Zone B stronger than we met them.

May Almighty Allah continue to guide our efforts, bless our members, protect our community, and grant us the wisdom, the patience, and the unity necessary to fulfill our mission.

Happy Second Anniversary to us all!

The best chapters of our story are still ahead of us.

May Potiskum, Zone B, and Yobe State endure and prosper.

…and

May the Potiskum Parliament endure and prosper for generations to come. Ameen!
