SECURITY AND LEADERSHIP
Apr 2023 264 deaths
Mar 2023 383 deaths
Feb 2023 243 deaths
Jan 2023 294 deaths
Rio de Janeiro in Brazil has recorded 1,184 murders in the first 4 months of 2023!
Lagos saw 345 violent deaths in all of 2022, and rate is even slower in 2023.
So while it seems most of us are quick to harp on insecurity, Nigeria is actually one of the safest developing country, in comparison to many!
Instead of understanding the concept, and the level of security, many are overwhelmed by the concept of fear!
May be it is time for some courage;
Nelson Mandela once said that “…courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”
Mr Nuhu Ribadu has to teach our security structure and its manpower to conquer the first element of insecurity – fear!!
Only then can we confront insecurity!
Our penchant to always blame someone (the head) for our insecurity, when we pay out trillions for personnel and equipment, is ludicrous!
We need to hold the whole security establishment to account. Mr Ribadu must turn the table and begin a bottoms up rebuilding.
While the trillions are paid top-down, the reality of our safety are confronted bottoms-up.
There must be a rethink. Tinubu must not continue the mindless approach of throwing money at the ‘heads and Generals, with Zero improvement over a short period of time.
We have the resources and skills to protect ourselves. It is not nuclear science!
