This is an illicit market in Kusuri, a border town in Cameroon located between N’Djamena, Nigeria and Cameroon, where smuggled petrol from Nigeria is sold. Thousands of drums and gallons of various litres hitherto used for stealing Nigeria’s fuel are now laying fallow in Kusuri, Garoua, Gidar and Marwa, among other towns in Cameroun and Chad.
The increase in pump price of petroleum products and the removal of subsidy has however, prevented the diversion and smuggling of gasoline outside the country’s borders which bleeds the nation’s economy These items in most cases easily find their way to the ISWAP terrorist enclaves in the Lake Chad. “All these gallons and drums are now useless.
This particular field in Kusuri where these gallons and drums are kept is over 100 hectares. Some of the drums and gallons, as you can see, are kept under built shades. We are with Tinubu and NO to subsidy,” the narrator said.
