Rivers PDP MHA’s sudden massive defection to the APC -A Red-flag to the PDP NWC.

Today being the 12th of December 2023, those in the Nigeria’s political cycle and particularly the PDP members, woke up to the sad news of the defection of over twenty members of the Rivers state house of assembly from the PDP to the opposition APC in the state.
It was a shocking and devastating news to the members of the PDP nationwide owing to the fact that the state, Rivers, has being a no-go area for any other political party aside the PDP since the adoption of democracy in Nigeria.
Let me take us back to the incidences that occurred prior to the recent 2023 elections where the then outgoing Governor, Nyesom Wike, clearly and openly sabotaged his party the PDP in the name of protecting the interest of the majority of the southerners as he claimed, but amidst that, the PDP won over 80% of the political seats within the state in both gubernatorial and national assembly legislators race.
The former governor has not being in a good relationship with the incumbent state governor and the PDP exco’s in the state as he refuses to give the governor and his team a space, making the governor and his cabinets not authoritative.
Not over a month back, the state governor HE SIMI Fubara retaliated to his former master’s authoritativeness and incessant noises which resulted to a political crisis in the state from the camp of the governor and that of the former governor and now FCT minister.
The PDP statesmen in the state were aggrieved with the minister’s habitual noise making and immature behaviors which made them revealed to the public how he refuses to allow the incumbent governor to do his work freely, they further warned him to stay out of the affairs of the PDP in the state as he has proven to be a disaster to the PDP in the 2023 presidential election specifically.
The PDP NWC under the chairmanship and leadership of Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum has all justifications to suspend or dismiss Nyesom Wike from the PDP following his sabotage to the party which was clear to all and sundry, but continues to overlook his irksome attitudes as if the party stands to lose everything from his suspension or dismissal.
The inability of the NWC to suspend Wike makes myriad number of the party members to question the integrity of the acting national chairman and his team, throwing questions and challenges to them of which they have failed in defending their weak action against Wike until today.
This morning, the PDP sadly lost over 20 MHA’s to the APC in the state. This would’ve been avoidable only if proper action was taken on Wike’s matter right from the beginning, unfortunately, reverse is the case.
Now the big question here is;
Will the PDP call for an emergency NWC and board of trustee meeting so as to find a final timely resolution to the challenges bedeviling and destructing the party in Rivers due to Wike’s avaricious interest or continue to watch the party sink in the state and the south_south region?
At this juncture, the failure of the acting national chairman and the NWC to tackle this matter will further confirm to the public that the party is no doubt in wrong hands and if care is not taken, before the next convention, the party may encounter massive exodus from most of its longtime stalwarts, loyalists and diehard supporters.
As the saying goes, “A stitch in time saves nine”
Whatever the outcome, we remain committed and determined to the success of the PDP now and always. POWER TO THE PEOPLE.
