El-Rufai: The Betrayal, The Witch Hunt, and the Hypocrisy of BATists — By Sa’adiyyah Adebisi Hassan
By now, it should be clear to any reasonable observer that Mallam Nasir El-Rufai was betrayed, humiliated, and thrown under the bus not by the opposition, not by his enemies, but by the very people who stood on the podium, swore by his loyalty, and demanded that he commit to serving in their government. What did he get in return? A witch hunt. A smear campaign. A political backstabbing of the highest order.
Let’s be blunt if I were El-Rufai, I would do exactly what he is doing now. You don’t betray a man who fights for you with his blood and expect him to walk away quietly. El-Rufai is no coward, and neither am I.
The Betrayal: How Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Used and Dumped El-Rufai
El-Rufai is not just another politician. He is an institution. You don’t toy with men like him and walk away without consequences. This is a man who single-handedly confronted the entire Northern establishment that wanted Tinubu to fail. A man who took a sitting President to court, fought against the naira redesign policy that was engineered to cripple Tinubu’s campaign, and damned every consequence to ensure APC’s victory.
Yet, what did he get in return? A calculated, cold-blooded betrayal orchestrated through:
The National Security Adviser (NSA) – His supposed ally, turned against him overnight.
Governor Uba Sani – Coerced into a fight he wasn’t ready for, forced to accuse his own mentor of N423 billion theft. A governor who wouldn’t have been in office without El-Rufai’s political machinery.
A Systematic Smear Campaign – Suddenly, El-Rufai, the man they once called a strategic genius, became “irrelevant” in their eyes.
The Foolishness of BATists and Their Weak Arguments
Now, let’s address the hypocrites who are scrambling to justify this betrayal. Their arguments are laughable, weak, and filled with contradictions.
1. “El-Rufai has lost relevance, and his exit won’t shake APC.”
This is pure delusion. The same El-Rufai that governors, ministers, and political heavyweights paid visits to before making major political moves has now suddenly “lost relevance?” If he is truly irrelevant, why are they so desperate to downplay his exit?
El-Rufai is not just a politician he is a kingmaker. He has never relied on “mass popularity” to be powerful, he operates in strategic corridors where real power is brokered. His influence isn’t measured by “crowd numbers” but by his ability to pull the right strings at the right time.
This is the same method Tinubu used to build his empire. If “crowds” and “mass appeal” were the only measures of power, then people like Peter Obi would have easily won the last election.
El-Rufai knows how to build and dismantle political structures. And APC will feel his absence in ways they don’t yet realize.
2. “Kaduna APC is stronger without El-Rufai.”
This is another lie. Kaduna APC is in serious danger. Let’s face it Uba Sani is struggling. His so-called “stronghold” is built on sand. Without El-Rufai’s political machinery, APC in Kaduna will collapse faster than they think.
The cracks are already showing:
His government is already unpopular due to economic hardship and increased taxes.
There are deep divisions within Kaduna APC many of them still loyal to El-Rufai.
Opposition forces in the North are gathering strength, and without a strong APC structure, Kaduna could flip in 2027.
Uba Sani is merely enjoying the remnants of the system El-Rufai built. But that system is crumbling.
3. “Tinubu’s national structure is too strong for El-Rufai to matter.”
This is the biggest joke of all. Tinubu’s political dominance is real, but every empire weakens when it starts pushing away key pillars.
El-Rufai’s issue is not about trying to stop Tinubu in 2027, it’s about dealing with the internal hypocrisy that threatens Kaduna APC. But let’s not pretend like Tinubu’s camp is not panicking.
If El-Rufai truly didn’t matter, then:
Why are there so many media hit jobs against him?
Why is there a coordinated effort to discredit him?
Why are they so afraid of where he might go next?
It’s simple: El-Rufai holds strategic political weight. And they know it.
Why El-Rufai Is Pissed Off And Rightfully So
El-Rufai did everything for this party. He fought enemies, made unnecessary ones for himself, and risked his own political career just to see Tinubu emerge victorious. Yet, instead of appreciation, he got disgrace.
And what’s worse? The same Northern elites he stepped on are now laughing. The very people who wanted Tinubu to fail have watched APC betray one of its most loyal warriors.
This is why he is pissed off. And he has every right to be.
If El-Rufai decides to join another party, it is not about Tinubu it is about dealing with the hypocrisy of Uba Sani. But look at these BATists they are already panicking, running up and down, calling him “irrelevant.” If he was truly irrelevant, why are they so scared?
Final Words: The Table Has Been Broken
Let me make this clear I am a Tinubu supporter and will support him in 2027. But I am not a blind follower. I will never watch hypocrisy unfold and pretend it doesn’t exist.
What was done to El-Rufai was betrayal of the highest order. And no amount of propaganda, damage control, or Twitter threads can erase that fact.
APC needs to wake up. You do not treat loyal soldiers like disposable rags. If they continue on this path, they will wake up one day to realize they have surrounded themselves with only sycophants and clowns.while the real political giants have walked away.
By then, it will be too late.
