The final word…
The address did something fundamental
It put the final nails on the coffin of petrol subsidy.
Chad sells 362.
Niger sells 346.
Ghana sells 326.
Nigeria sells 161.
Those other three all produce oil.
If Nigeria chooses to continue subsidising oil after its revenues have fallen by 40% then it has chosen suicide .
But it wont be that sort of suicide where one foolish folk hangs himself on a tree. In this one the foolish folk will kill himself so that his neighbours will gorge themselves on his entrails.
And the president made the pont that he hesitated on subsidy removal for too long because he was sensitive to the plight of poor. But the the fall in oil prices and the OPEC reduction in our production quotas forced his hand.
You can look at that address and pull out a quote you hate. That’s nice . But its always better to provide a context. Read the entire piece.
If you think the address was bad or boring then say it was written by Buhari.
But,
If you think the address was good and if it will give you a heart ache to admit it then you can simply say it was Jubril’s.
I think we should switch to the cheaper parliamentary system of government with six regions as federation units.
Happy Independence day, my people !
